QLD: Mining jobs secured until 2024
Miners in northwest Queensland have been handed an early Christmas present .. with
Xstrata Copper saying it won't be shutting down its mine near Cloncurry.
The Ernest Henry Mine was due to be closed in 2012 .. but the mining giant's announced
it'll be transforming the open cut copper .. gold and magnetite pit into a major underground
site .. and will keep it running until 2024.
Xstrata's North Queensland chief operating officer STEVE DE KRUIJFF says the projects
will secure an additional 330 jobs during construction .. and 400 full-time jobs from
2013.
