Qld: Garbo sacked via text message, says union
New federal industrial laws have been blamed for the sacking of three Brisbane waste
disposal workers .. including one who was fired via a mobile phone text message.
Transport Workers Union president HUGHIE WILLIAMS says the three workers were fired
on Monday by personnel company WorkPac.
He says two of the workers received news of their immediate termination over the phone
.. while a third worker received her news via a mobile phone text message.
Mr WILLIAMS says the government's new IR laws are to blame for the sackings .. and
he says the three workers were targeted because of their union affiliation.
Premier PETER BEATTIE says Australians won't accept an IR system which allows people
to be sacked by text message.
He says it's the ugly side of industrial relations and about as grubby as you can get.
